Berbatov Heading To Barcelona
Football and dull are two words that do not go together. Well it gets more interesting, it appears as if the mighty Barcelona are lining up a bid for Dimitar Berbatov. At first thought you would assume the player and the team are hardly a match made in heaven, and your instincts would be absolutely correct.
Barcelona play a type of football that can only be described as dynamic and energetic. The Spanish team play with a high-tempo passing game, that only certain players can adapt to. Dimitar Berbatov on the other hand is not a player who could be forced to play a faster style of football. So putting the two together would be an extraordinary outcome.
Berbatov would be the cheapest replacement for injured Messi
While it is difficult to think the former Manchester United striker is on some kind of wish list, it actually may not be such a far fetched idea. Lionel Messi is set to miss the coming eight weeks due to a torn hamstring. For the Argentine international this is bad news. While his place in Argentina’s squad will in no way be in doubt, this injury could possibly damage his form as the World Cup inches closer. And since the World Cup is being played in south America, Argentina will be one of the favourites to take the title.
However, it appears as if the Fulham front man is just one of many strikers in Barcelona’s sight. With Robert Lewandowski, Sergio Aguero, Miroslav Klose and Didier Drogba the other possible fill-in’s for the world’s best player.
The challenge that any new recruit faces is their playing time will be severely limited, even though the idea of being a Barcelona professional is very appealing. Dimitar Berbatov would be the cheapest option, and since his contract at Fulham expires next summer he may just enjoy warming the Nou Camp bench. For the curious it may not be a bad idea if Berbatov did end up at Barcelona. At least that way we all get to see what the Catalan giants do once he is unveiled as their player.
