Brace By Gerrard Sinks Manchester United
Lets face it, this is the season Manchester United turned into sitting ducks for the big sides in the Premiership. And a brace by Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard, including a goal by the in form Suarez, has dealt the red team from Manchester another blow from which they will have to recover. But the recovery won’t be this season, and even if there is a small fightback the number of players who could leave United will create further setbacks.
By now it’s settled that the champions of the Premiership will either be Chelsea or Manchester City, and no offence to Manchester City but its hard to think Mourinho won’t win another domestic trophy with another side in the first season after taking over. He is after all the self declared ‘special one’.
United have lost their fight
Gerrard put two penalties away, with Suarez just adding to United’s woes as Liverpool not only displayed their dominance over United but also their new found superiority. For David Moyes this has to be the lowest point in the season, as it pretty much hints at Manchester United missing out on qualifying for the Champions League. A blow for fans and the club, and especially for the owners.
It was 1995 when United last failed to qualify for the Champions League, and in between then and now the club went on to win the double and the treble and a few other trophies. But while many thought the end of the United era had come, this season has well and truly confirmed those feelings.
The win puts Liverpool closer to Chelsea who are at the top of the table, with City in fourth who still have three games in hand. What is evident is the spine United used to have no longer exists, the willingness to fight and scrape victories is also a thing of the past. Will David Moyes be at United come the start of next season? Its hard to tell, but after the way in which the season has gone it may be time to call on someone with top flight managerial experience.
