Everton braced for United bids
Manchester United boss, David Moyes has made no intentions to keep secret the pursuit of the Everton duo, Marouane Fellaini & Leighton Baines. Moyes had worked side by side with the due throughout their Everton careers & now believes they can prove useful to United’s title push. Everton had laughed off an offer of £25 Million for the pair last month, calling it ‘Disrespectful’, but Moyes is determined to bring in some new faces before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday night.
United’s only signing is the young Uruguayan defender Varela, who arrived from Penarol for a fee of £1.5 Million. They released 8 players, Paul Scholes retired and Scott Wooton went for a cool £1m.
It is believed now that Moyes will reinstate his interest in the Everton pair & launch a fresh bid of £37 Million for the duo, which in hindsight may be hard to turn down. However if this fails, the Scotsman may try to lure just the big Belgian, Fellaini to Old Trafford. It is no secret that United are short in the central midfield department, and Everton’s player of the year would certainly fill the void that has been there for some time. Reports have it that United may offer up to £25m solely for the services of Fellaini & will try to prise him from the clutches of Everton withing these last few days.
Martinez admitted he would have preferred the window to close before the start of the season.
“As far as they (Fellaini and Baines) are concerned, they are both terrific professionals and a great example for football in general,” Martinez said.
“It’s an unfair situation. Not just for us, for everyone up and down the country. There should be a transfer window, but once the competitive games start then it should stop because it is unfair for everyone.
“They are top players as you have seen today and I want to keep my top players. But when you are in the transfer window you are not in control of what is going to happen.”
