How Addicted And Reliant Are You On Technology?
It goes without saying that in the developed world almost everyone suffers from some kind of technology addiction. If you wanted to check if this is actually the case, all you would need to do is entertain the thought of being without your fancy smartphone. If that shocking thought is enough to bring you out in a cold sweat then something is definitely wrong.
Research carried out by FrontRange.com, revealed that almost half of the gadget owners around the world have admitted to feeling anxious if they go through any period which doesn’t allow them to use their phones. Sounds like technology addiction. 800 smartphone users were included in the study, and 53% of them said that a technology detox was much more stressful in comparison to a visit to the dentist. Which is saying something, since a visit to the dentist is pretty stressful.
Addiction to technology is growing and it is a concern
Figures show that one in every eight people in the United Kingdom are showing sign of technology addiction. In the last year the number of individuals being treated for this problem has risen, and there is nothing stopping this problem from getting considerably worse.
The individuals included in the survey were also asked about their views on technology usage and addiction. Almost 85% had revealed that addiction to technology is a real problem, while 71% had said that they knew someone who may be addicted to their devices. 50% claimed to use their phones every hour, and 66% said that there was no way that they could go without their phones for an entire day.
The very fact that people can be uncomfortable is a worrying sign. Being dependent on technology to that level highlights that people as a whole have walked down a dark path. As everything gets intertwined with the internet, it makes it that much harder to be without internet access. Therefore it is no surprise that certain individuals do get very attached and then addicted to technology.
