With Chelsea’s failed attempt to coup Manchester United, Wayne Rooney, the Cameroon striker was seen as Plan B. The deal will cost Chelsea in the region of some £7 million for a one year deal. The 32 year old player will be taking a drastic pay cut to join his former manager, giving up £17 million from Anzhi Makhachkala.
Mourinho’s search for a striker during the transfer season can now come to an end. He now has the likes of Demba Ba, Lukaku and Fernando Torres within his ranks along with the new addition. Mourinho will be hoping Eto’o can meet his high expectations this season as Chelsea look to mount a serious title challenge.
“Any coach would be stupid not to want to have a striker like him,” is what Mourinho once stated, so it is obvious the two being reunited can produce great results for the club as it did when they were at Inter Milan where thy achieving the treble. There is no doubt that Samuel Eto’o is quality and even if he no longer has that pep in his step, his experience could prove to be invaluable to the Blues.
