Pietersen Made Scapegoat Says Andrew Flintoff
England’s former all rounder Andrew Flintoff has stated that Kevin Pietersen has shouldered the blame for the English cricket team’s poor performance this winter. He went on to question the team spirit within the touring squad, as his former team mate has been made to look like the one hurdle between the teams failures and successes.
Kevin Pietersen’s international career is now over, a point which was made very clearly by the England & Wales Cricket Board. There has been one other victim to the situation, team director Andy Flower. But it is the batsman who has taken the brunt of the criticism.
England have profited from having Pietersen in the side
Andrew Flintoff was part of many sides which succeeded and failed, and he strongly believes that singling out an individual for the failure of the side is wrong. For onlookers, the treatment which Pietersen has received seems unfair and it is something which wouldn’t have happened in the past.
There are a couple of points that support and have supported his place in the side. Firstly, the ECB have made a large amount of money from having Kevin Pietersen play for their English cricket team. Secondly, he has been a proven run scorer and match winner for the team. Is there a player who can fill Pietersen’s place in the side? Who knows, but while the player himself is still able to play at the top level, it will be ECB trying to find their next star player.
England’s one time captain Andrew Flintoff went on to say that the English cricket team no longer wants to be a group, and it is highlighted perfectly by the fact that they are letting one player take the blame. What is evident is key players and officials of the ECB have made sure their positions are secure, and have successfully managed to put the focus elsewhere.
