Playstation 4 Breaking Records In Second Week Since Launch

Playstation 4 Breaking Records In Second Week Since Launch

The battle between Sony and Microsoft continues to rage, as each release their new consoles. Do gamers prefer the Playstation 4 or do they veer towards the Xbox One. If you had to purchase one, or are in the process of purchasing one, which would it be?

Well, 2 million people would say that the Playstation 4 rules the realm of gaming. It has become the fastest selling console in the United Kingdom, with 250,000 units being sold in less than 48 hours. And two weeks after the console had its launch in the United States, its global sales have reached 2.1 million.

Andrew House, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, said on the Official Playstation blog that the Playstation 4’s launch in North America last month was Playstation’s biggest ever. In the US 1 million gamers got their their hands on the console within 48 hours.

3 million Playstation 4’s predicted to be sold by Christmas

The amount that has been sold worldwide is impressive, and it breaks many of the records that had been set in the past by the company. It also set a new precedent in the games industry, revealing the power and demand of these consoles.

Microsoft haven’t released any official figures as yet, all we know is that 1 million had been sold in the first 24 hours of its launch. If the Black Friday sales in the United States are anything to go by, then the Xbox One is appearing as the more popular. With the Xbox One taking 31% of the sales compared to Playstations 4’s 15%. One of the key factors in the sales was the number of units that were available.

Both the consoles have a much more conventional design compared to the past, and both are using familiar CPU and graphics-processing hardware options. It is for this reason that manufacturing the consoles has been much easier. A far cry when you think of the issues that surrounded the launch of the Playstation 3.

Sony did reveal that they are planning on selling 3 million Playstation 4’s by the end of 2013. However, IHS who is a leading industry analyst has said that a more realistic forecasted figure maybe be 2.4 million Playstation 4’s sold.
