Wayne Rooney Ruled out of World Cup Qualifiers
England’s top striker Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of the World Cup Qualifying game against Moldova on Ukraine. He was involved in a collision on Saturday with defender, Phil Jones in a training session. The medical team of the English squad ruled out the Manchester United striker after going over photos of the cut to his forehead.
The injury is said to be very severe as he isn’t able to train with any form of contact or even head the ball until the stitches he received have been removed. Rooney’s time on the sidelines is expected to last some three weeks and all precautions are being taken due to the risk of infection to the wound. The injury saw him previously miss the marquee match-up of Liverpool and Manchester United which ended 1-0. Wayne Rooney’s omission is just another setback for England’s manager, Roy Hodgson.
The manager is already without the likes of Glen Johnson and Phil Jones due to injury and could quite possibly face even more headaches with Daniel Sturridge suffering from a thigh injury. Sturridge would have been Rooney’s likely replacement upfront but with key injuries hitting the England squad, the gaffer will be forced to reshuffle his squad and ensure positive results in both qualifying games.
